Photo & AI Policy
Last updated: October 6, 2026
Every Curb Appeal Studios portrait is made by AI from your photo. Here’s how that works, what a person checks, and what happens to your photo afterwards.
How the AI works
- When you upload a photo, an AI model (Google Gemini) checks that it shows the outside of a house and flags people, faces, readable license plates and unsuitable content. If a photo can’t be used, we tell you why. Pet photos are checked the same way, for an animal instead of a house.
- Gemini then repaints the photo in the style you picked. It’s told to keep your home’s architecture — roofline, windows, doors, porch, chimneys, colors and camera angle — so it stays recognizably your house. If you add pet photos, it paints only the animals from them, small and in front of the house, and leaves out any people in those photos.
- Previews are small and watermarked. After you order, another AI model, run by Replicate, enlarges your portrait (to 4992 × 6656 pixels), and each product’s print file is cut from that at 300 dpi.
AI can make mistakes. It may change a small detail, add something that isn’t there, or miss something that is. That’s why previews are free: look closely before you order, and only buy a portrait you’re happy with.
You approve every print
Before you order, you see your portrait on each product exactly as it will print, and you can move or zoom it to crop it the way you like. You approve it at checkout, and that’s what we print. Every print file is also checked automatically before it goes to the printer; if a check fails, a person on our team looks at it first.
What we leave out
To protect privacy, the AI is told to leave these out of every portrait:
- People
- Cars and license plates
- House numbers
- Signs and logos
It’s also told not to add text, signatures or borders unless a style calls for them (the Retro Monster Poster style adds the title “THE HOUSE”). If something slips through, pick a different preview or style before you order, or email us.
The details your phone stores inside a photo file, such as location, aren’t sent to the AI and don’t appear in your portrait.
Your photo, your permission
Only upload a photo you took yourself or have permission to use. If it’s someone else’s home — a client’s new house, a relative’s, a childhood home — please be thoughtful about how the portrait is used and shared.
No AI training, no marketing
We never use your photos, previews or portraits to train AI models. We use the paid tier of the Gemini API, and Google’s terms for it say Google doesn’t use this content to improve its products.
We never use your photo or portrait in marketing, on social media or as an example on our site without asking you first.
How AI-made work is labeled
We label previews and products “AI-made from your photo” so it’s always clear how they were made.
Images made by Gemini also carry SynthID, an invisible digital watermark Google adds to identify AI-generated images. You can’t see it and it doesn’t change how your portrait looks.
Please don’t present your portrait as a photograph of the property’s real condition, or as hand-painted work.
When your photo is deleted
- No order: your photo and previews are deleted 30 days after upload.
- Pet photos: deleted 30 days after upload in every case.
- With an order: your photo, previews and print files are kept for one year after the order (so we can resend files and handle reprints), then deleted.
You can ask us to delete them sooner at any time by emailing hello@curbappealstudios.com. If an order is still being printed or shipped, we’ll tell you how deleting affects it.
